Ganesh visarjan in the GTA: respectful idol immersion without a river or lake

You can complete Ganesh visarjan in the GTA without taking the idol to a river or lake. Pooja Disposal collects the idol from your door, says a short prayer, and immerses clay idols in a clean water tank so the clay returns to the earth. If you already did visarjan at home in a tub or bucket, we also collect the leftover clay.

Why not the lake or the river

Visarjan is about returning the idol to nature. A clay idol can do that, but paint, plaster and decorations do not dissolve, and they stay in the water. Immersing in a clean tank keeps the meaning of the ritual and keeps lakes and rivers clean.

Did your visarjan at home in a tub or bucket?

Many families now immerse a clay Ganesh idol at home in a tub or bucket. That keeps lakes and rivers clean, but it leaves a pot of settled clay that nobody is sure what to do with, especially in an apartment with no garden.

  1. Let the clay settle for a day, then gently pour the clear water onto plants or soil.
  2. Leave the clay to dry until it is firm.
  3. Put it in a sealed bag or a container with a lid.
  4. Book a pickup and hand it over with your flowers, garlands and other items. The clay is returned to the earth.

A small bag or small box is usually enough for the clay from one home idol. If you have a garden, you can also mix the clay into your own soil or a plant pot.

How visarjan works with us

  1. Do your farewell pooja and aarti at home as you normally would.
  2. Keep the idol wrapped and ready on your pickup day.
  3. We collect it from your doorstep and keep it apart from ordinary waste.
  4. After a short prayer, a clay idol is immersed in a clean water tank. The clay settles and is returned to the earth.
  5. A plaster or painted idol is wrapped in clean cloth and taken for safe disposal. It is never put in water.

The flowers and decorations too

Garlands, durva, flowers and other items from the days of Ganesh Chaturthi can be handed over with the idol. Flowers are composted and the rest is sorted by hand. You pay the pickup fee once per booking.

Common questions

What do I do with the clay left after a home visarjan?

Let it settle, pour the clear water onto plants, dry the clay and put it in a sealed bag or a container with a lid. Pooja Disposal collects it from your door and returns it to the earth.

How do I know if my Ganesh idol is clay or plaster?

Clay idols are heavier, feel earthy and are usually less glossy. Plaster of Paris idols are lighter and smoother. If you are not sure, add a photo when you book and we will handle it the right way.

Can you collect large idols from a pandal or community event?

Yes. We arrange pickups for festival pandals, temples and housing societies. Call or WhatsApp us to plan a larger collection.
