What is left after Diwali
Many families bring home new Lakshmi and Ganesh idols for Diwali pooja, which leaves last year’s idols waiting in a cupboard. Add the clay diyas, garlands, flowers and pooja samagri from the festival, and there is a small pile that nobody is sure what to do with.
What we do with each item
- Clay idols: immersed in a clean water tank after a short prayer, and the settled clay is returned to the earth.
- Plaster and painted idols: wrapped in clean cloth and taken for safe disposal, never put in water.
- Clay diyas, wicks and incense ash: diyas are broken down and returned to the soil with the ash. Cotton wicks are composted.
- Flowers and garlands: threads and foil are removed by hand and the flowers are composted.
- Deity photos and old calendars: frames are taken apart and recycled, and the sacred image is handled separately.

Common questions
When should I book after Diwali?
Book whenever your items are ready. Pickup days fill up around festivals, so booking a few days ahead gives you more choice of dates.
Can I include items from Diwali cleaning, such as old photos and calendars?
Yes. Old deity photos, frames, calendars and religious books found during Diwali cleaning can go in the same pickup.
